For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. Romans 12:4-8
How can I serve?
We sometimes think of serving in terms of a specific task or ministry within the church. That is not wrong but it is important not to forget that we are all called to serve one another and the gospel with all of our lives. Ephesians 4 tells us that the church body builds itself up as its members speak gospel truth to one another in love. We do that as we share our lives and speak gospel truth into all of the situations, emotions, trials and triumphs that we face. We serve as we get to know one another, encourage one another, pray for one another and meet each others needs. We serve as we go and do our secular jobs to the glory of God seeking to do good and commend the gospel. We serve as we tell the gospel and share the reason for our hope.
And more specifically
And yet, as in every church, we need to serve in particular pratical areas as well. We are a gospel team united by our desire to see Christ's name lifted up in our lives through the preaching and teaching of the Word and corporate worship. In an international Church where people are often only with us for a little while we need people to quickly jump in and serve where they see a need. Here are some of the current needs. If you are a regular member and attender of IBC and you love the Lord and walk with him, could you prayerfully think through how you might serve in our community?
